Training Opportunities

Are you a new school leaver? Port Stephens Veterans and Citizens Aged Care Ltd supports:

  • Work experience – for students who are currently participating in tertiary education courses related to aged care (conditions apply)
  • Scholarships (refer to page on scholarships)

Port Stephens Veterans & Citizens Aged Care is committed to ongoing training and professional development for our employees. The aim is to:

  • develop strong skills and competencies across the organisation,
  • enable high performance levels in all roles and positions,
  • assist people to reach their long-term career objectives,
  • develop a skilled workforce with the depth to meet the future needs of the organisation.

As an organisation we take pride in: quality, improvement and excellence. Staff development and training at Port Stephens Veterans and Citizens Aged Care Ltd includes:

  • New Employee Induction (full day) – includes introductions to key administration personnel and their roles, Payroll and HR information, Work Health & Safety induction and mandatory responsibilities in the Aged Care Industry. Clinical staff also receive additional induction training and competency assessment.
  • Work Health & Safety training as required and also training for WHS Committee members.
  • Annual Mandatory and Fire Safety Training Program is designed to keep employees up to date with the latest Work Health & Safety legislation, clinical practices and clinical compliance as well as hands on fire safety training and practical evacuation exercise.
  • Regular Clinical Best Practice in-service – wound dressings, palliative care, and similar examples of best practice in aged care as required.
  • First Aid certification where required by WHS legislation.
  • Attendance at approved industry or professional conferences.

In addition to corporate training, we also support a number of other training and education programs which may be funded or sourced from external bodies.

We support:

  • Traineeships – usually 12 month programs in administration or similar programs.
  • Work experience – for students who are currently participating in tertiary education courses related to aged care (conditions apply).
  • Scholarships.
  • Tertiary studies - may be available for some positions where there is an identified shortage of skilled workers.
  • Career Path Training – This is identified and supported through the Performance Appraisal System.

We also provide on-going training for Core Competencies for Continuing Professional Development (CPD), Manual Handling, Bullying & Harassment, Work Health & Safety, Wound Management and Infection Control Principles. This is to ensure that our professionals, tradesmen, nurses and carers maintain the highest levels of competency, proficiency and practical safety.
